What's black and white and read all over? Come on! You know the answer! A newspaper! Ok, what does a newspaper have to do with this week's assignment? The theme for the 45th weekly assignment of 2011 is "Photojournalism"! What exactly is photojournalism? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it as "...journalism in which written copy is subordinate to pictorial usually photographic presentation of news stories or in which a high proportion of pictorial presentation is used." What the heck does that mean? Well, this assignment is for you to interpret what photojournalism means to you. To me, photojournalism expresses a real event or moment in time. It's not staged or contrived. Photojournalism also conveys a feeling of black and white to many people because many of the images published in a newspaper over the years were traditionally black and white (although that has changed a lot).
This is a very broad assignment so don't feel too pinned down. The assignment closes at the end of the day on Sunday, November 20, 2011 - giving you plenty of time to participate!
Assignment Guidelines
- Weekly assignments have been setup to challenge you as a photographer. View the assignments as an opportunity to push yourself and grow. Here are the guidelines:
- You can enter as many images as you wish.
- Do the best you can to capture the images during the week of the assignment (however it is understandable that this may not always be possible - so do the best you can).
- The images must be captured and processed by you.
- Please resize your images to 1000 pixels wide (or smaller) before uploading them.
- You can attach or link to your images - just make sure that the images are displayed in this thread.

Great shot! That definitely qualifies as photojournalism! It looks like you were pretty close to the action.
