Viewing the World in Color
I grew up on the North Shore of Boston for the majority of my life, and have moved several times since then to some of the most picturesque locations in New England. That is where my love of photography originated. I began to pursue that love professionally at the University of Vermont, under the guidance of William McDowell, Department Chair of Art and Art History and a most notable photographer. After my introductory class in photography with Bill in the fall of 2007, I soon purchased my first DSLR the following spring and haven’t stopped since. All the images featured on my website (except for one) have been taken within the past year.

I first began to photograph urban shots of downtown Burlington, Vermont, but did not like how that was progressing, so soon after graduating I decided to focus in on the macro level. Some of my work from the summer of 2008 I will always consider my finest, or more accurately, my “rarest” photos. When shooting macro photography in the nature world, you soon discover that the photos find you, and not vice versa, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to capture a small piece of the unseen natural world.

When that summer began to come to a close, I decided that I should tackle the previously daunting idea of moving into landscape photography. This, I believe, is my true calling for photography, and was a deciding factor when I chose to move to the coast of Maine the following October. Landscape is a subject that is never entirely left in your hands to manipulate; Mother Nature will often deter your original intentions for a photo and, more often than not, nudge you in the right direction and present you with a more enticing opportunity. I like that: the lack of control over your subject. It can be frustrating at times, but the spontaneity of scenic/nature photography and the results that come from that far outweigh a few disappointments.

Through most of my work, I like to show a vantage point that is rarely seen; a show of beauty, emotion, intricacy, and reality. The natural world is full of scenes that are often hidden from society, which is what I aspire to represent in my images. The work I present is something I hope everyone can relate to on some level.
