Hey guys, these are my first attempts at some HDR photography. Tried minimizing the halo effect on the second one the best I could. Any suggestions?

These are beautiful images! I don't know if you really need to apply an HDR treatment to them - they seem to stand on their own.
I would definitely work on removing thee halo around the mountain and tree - you could do this by blending in a normally processed sky using as a layer in Photoshop (some ideas here (http://www.paxtonprints.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=141)). I also think I might reduce the saturaiton of the sky - the blue is a bit over the top.
All-in-all great shots. I would love to see them processed "normally."

I agree with coffeelover on this one. I would like to see these shots without the HDR implementation. Personally, I think that people are prone to overuse HDR. Sometimes, you've just got to let life make a show for itself. I typically feel that HDR creates too much of a "cartoony" feel. Let your shots stand on their own.
I really like the first image, but would probably have cropped a little more off of the sky to bring the emphasis to the mountain and the ground. Since you didn't have a lot of cloud formations to work with, I just thought there was a little too much sky. I used to live in PDX and LOVE Mt Hood. Keep up the good work and keep the shots coming.

Thanks for the comments! I have attached a second version of the meadow shot. Used the advice coffeelover gave me.

Lovely! It looks like you got rid of the halos! Great job!
This is your image -but I would bring the saturation down just a hair and boost the contrast (blacks) a bit. Boosting the blacks a tiny bit will actually pull out the richness (I suspect) you are looking for. Great work!
