Ok so here is the story behind this. I eat at a place here in my city that serves some awesome japanese food. When you walk in they have a wall you walk past that has photos up of all their food. However, they are the worst photos you have ever seen, or at least I have ever seen from a photographers eye. They were taken on white paper from right above with a point and shoot with in camera flash and very pixilated. I have been wanting to redo the shots for them. So one night about a week ago I talked with one of the owners, and he said he wanted to be very economical about it. Meaning he didnt want to pay anyone, but he asked if I wanted to do a trade. I love their food and agreed that if he liked my test shots we could do some sort of a trade. I let him know though that "food" photography was not my profession in the photography world. So as not to mislead him in thinking I was some big food photographer. So today I went and got the food all separate and plated it myself (well, my wife actually plated it). I set up two lights (one studio and one small strobe). And shot away. Here are the two dishes we shot today for the test shots. I sent them to the owner and hopefully he will want me to do his wall dishes shots. Even though it would not be a paid gig, I still think it would be fun to say those are my photos on the wall at his place! And get some free food out of it. So here are the test shots! What do you guys think?

Your pics look great! The only thing I would change is the background - maybe for the real deal, consider photographing each meal on a paper background (or something).

Ha ha! Thats a funny picture! And so true! Thanks guys!

I will do it on a different background, He just said he didn't want it on white so I was thinking of offering to do it at the restaurant. We will see!

Actually using the bamboo sushi roll mats or something of the japanese theme-or very textured paper for under the plates wouldn't be bad. You don't want to distract from the food! Keep up the inspiring work!!

Nice work, Chase. So, you'll get to eat the food you photograph?

I like the bamboo idea. It could look very nice.

Well I got the job, and for a considerable amount of money on a gift card towards their food! I will be eating there for a long time to come for free! LOL. I shoot tomorrow!

That's a great deal! You'll post pictures as you go, right?

This is the anti-thread for the one jrome posted in the General forum!

So, if we all show up at your house, you'll take us out for Japanese food, right. ;)
