Hello!
For those who are interested.

It will take a bit longer.

I was really hoping for something a lot sooner. I started thinking maybe the Gimp project was beginning to go defunct. Glad to see they're still developing it.
In the meantime, I'm glad I have Lightroom and Photoshop at my disposal... There will always be a special place in my life for the open source stuff, especially as a programmer. It intrigues me. I still have Linux on my desktop, but, I confess that I haven't logged into it in a few weeks. Since I installed Windows 7 and moved my photography workflow over to Lightroom, I don't do much that warrants using Linux for. Most of my time on my computer is spent playing games, browsing the web (can do that from any OS) and checking my e-mail or photography.

That is something that I can not even imagine!

You can use GIMP also on Windows 7.
And there is also a x64 version!http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
Windows 7 should still have something good, too. ;)
I still use Windows XP but not Linux. Linux is too much Open Source to me. :?

I use Gimp on windows... At work, that's all I have access to as I'm just a programmer. Occasionally I need to do something simple and it works great. For over a year, the Gimp and the open source RAW converters, such as RAW Studio and RawTherapee, were all I used along with GThumb for image management. I needed something more streamlined, so I downloaded the Lightroom trial and fell in love with it.
I'll probably install Gimp on Windows 7, but it will probably never get used. Photoshop integrates very nicely into Lightroom.

John - Did you get converted to a Windowsian? Or is that Windows-ite?

Not really... I use Windows 7 regularly, but I do still have Linux on my machine. Microsoft finally developed a useful operating system, so I'm using it.

It's about time! The Vista era is finally drawing to a close! I am loving Win 7 too! It's fast, responsive and snappy!

I never liked Vista! Therefore I still have XP. And I just do not change times too!
But the next PC has in any case, Windows 7 and that is good.
I will probably get Lightroom next Time. But before I will still look what RawTherapee 3.0 does http://www.rawtherapee.com/.

I was using RawTherapee before moving to Lightroom and it does a great job. I'm not sure if it was at 3.0 the last time I used it... I'll check it out again.

RawTherapee 3.0 s still in development stage. So I will wait and see!
BTW: Some News from GIMP developer Martin Nordholt's Blog. http://www.chromecode.com/2010/01/multi-column-dock-windows-and-28.html
It seems, that we must wait till the end of this year for GIMP 2.8.
But here is a comment:
He is keen to point out in his blog post that this release date is by no means set in stone, stating: "if we have an estimated release date it will surely be misinterpreted as a definite release date, and if we don't meet it, people will be annoyed".

So we will wait in joyful expectation. :)

So much for their smaller, more frequent updates! :)
Oh well. I'll try to be patient.
