View Full Version : Meeting members...

It's pretty neat the places you can meet members from the forum. I met Chase on Little Big Planet a little while ago. Hopefully he'll come on and explain that outfit he was wearing! :)

Sweet! Did you guys plan a meetup or just bump into each other? I am not sure I would recognize him if I saw him.

I logged in to the Playstation network and saw that he was playing Little Big Planet. I sent a message to see if he wanted to do some multiplayer... He eventually joined my game.
It's a shame you have an XBox instead of a PS3, Steve... We could play Modern Warfare 2 together, provided you got it for Christmas.

Ahh...you met virtually. I don't know what Little Big Planet is...I assume a PS3 game. I never played. That's cool!
Funny thing about Modern Warfare 2 - it's the only thing I asked for and my wife didn't get it for me! I was kinda of bummed - but.....my wife ended up surprising me with it yesterday. So I have it!
I played a bit yesterday and man oh man...what an amazing (and incredibly violent) game. It is crazy. My brother-in-law bought us a subscription to NetFlix and X-Box Live for Christmas. Can you believe I have never played X-Box online until just this week?! I have had an X-Box 360 since pretty much day one when it first came out. I just never felt compelled to get online. I have seriously been missing out! The problem with online gaming is that it is very addicting! I have to be careful not to dump too much time into it...but it is fun!
Being an old school PC gamer - I really, really suck online with a game pad. It's down right embarrassing. I don't know any of the maps and I have never felt comfortable with a game pad (where's my mouse and keyboard!?!). I am fresh meat for all the hardcore gamers. With all the bullets flying, I don't know if I should hunker down and try to snipe or keep moving. It doesn't seem to matter because I get wasted either way.
I wish I had the time to invest in getting better online, but I doubt it will ever happen...

Sounds like you need something like this for the XBox...

I tried playing MW2 online and my death rate was probably around 5-10/minute. I don't know the maps either.
Playing online is loads of fun. You have been missing out!
Little Big Planet is a platform game like Mario Brothers only a million times better! My favorite part of it is being able to smack other players and knock 'em over. :D

What's really sad is that a lot of these hardcore gamers run up and kill me with their knife - almost as if I don't have a gun! It's a pretty embarrassing way to get killed.
I have wondered a little bit about my Internet latency. On X-Box live, there isn't a specific way to know how much lag you have in the game (other than a few rudimentary bars). There have been quite a few times when I know, know, know that I got the drop on a guy but he ends up spinning around and killing me. It's as if my bullets haven't caught up with the online game (but they are real time for me). It's kind of frustrating... I know I am not that good...but you would think I could hit something once in a while - even if just by accident. :)
I have my X-Box connected to a super fast cable connection via WiFi (g network). I wonder if my signal isn't very strong? I also wonder if I should upgrade my network router to the n standard. The X-Box is just one room over from my office where the router is...

I have my PS3 hooked up via WiFi to a not so fast DSL connection. I get about 1.5Mbs down and 385Kbs up. I manage to get a few kills in from time to time. I can't imagine your WiFi connection being much of a bottleneck. Is there a way you could try it wired to know for sure? Wireless G is 54Mb/s, which isn't too shabby.
I understand your frustration about getting killed with a knife! It has happened to me many times in the short period of time I played.
When you go online, do you just join games at random, or are you playing with people you know? I've joined a few guys I met on the Hardcore Christian Gamers (http://forums.christian-gaming.com/index.php) forum.

Ha ha, that was sure fun for the short time I joined John in the game. I actually didnt see his message. I was playing with my two nephews that were in town. You should google LittleBigPlanet Steve. Its a pretty interesting game. I would say its now Sony's Mario... You are a character called Sack Boy. Its a little sticked up sack character. You can customize with tons of outfits, stickers, etc etc. The main thing I love about the game is you can build levels from scratch. The levels that come with the game were created the same way with the same tools they give you in the game to make your custom levels. Then you can upload the levels online for others from around the world to play. Its a very fun family game. There have been many creative levels created since the game came out over a year ago. You can put sounds in the game, which vary from animal sounds to musical instruments. You can change the pitch of those sounds to make a song as the people go through the level. You can make a puzzle level with guys to kill before you get past. I have seen someone make a calculator that allowed you to add, subtract. And looking how this person was able to do it was very complex.
As for the outfit I was wearing, the base was a character from a game called heavenly sword, but my nephews used stickers to paint me completely different and put other items on me, so I looked very odd. I was a bit sad to have to stop playing with John but my wife needed some errands ran. And since she is on bed rest, I do whatever she asks!

Wow Steve, you've never been on Xbox Live? I don't even have an Xbox and I have my own Xbox Live username on my friend's 360 for when we want to play Halo online. It's amazing. The part about people coming in and stabbing/cutting you is supposed to be somewhat humiliating, haha. It's kind of like in Halo going behind someone and assassinating them by melee'ing them in the back.
I sincerely doubt your WiFi is slowing you down especially if you're just in the room next to the router. I've got almost all my computers at my house on Wifi (g) and I still download at over 1MB/sec with 120KB/sec upload. The lag you're experiencing is part of the central server to the game and that the other person might have a slower connection than you do, so they're seeing something slightly different than you are. If you're into sci-fi at all then this is the ultimate reality of parallel dimensions!

Wow Steve, you've never been on Xbox Live?
Yep...pretty sad, isn't?!
I will have to play around with it some more - I am sure you and John are correct. The other thing that's happening is that some of our NetFlix content (streaming shows) are being downgraded in quality. Actually, the quality of the streaming content jumps all over the place from one bar (abysmal quality) to HD. Makes me wonder.... Do you know if there is a way to check your network speed on the X-Box?

You might check your NAT settings (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874) and see if you're having any problems there.

Thanks...I didn't realize that menu option was there. It looks like my connection is ok (at least according to the test).
