I just picked up this lens last week and like it a lot so far. JohnB asked to see some images so I thought I'd post them up for everyone to see. I over sharpened the orange flower a little, oops.

I think I want that lens now! It would be nice to have a fast wide angle lens. And, from the looks of it, you get a pretty close focusing distance. That's definitely a nice feature.

What's in the background of that last photo?

Wonderful colors and DOF! Is that your kid in the first image?

Thanks guys! The background of the last picture is just a flower bed, leaves and mulch. That is my little girl, just turned 9 mos old.

The pastel colors in the background makes that photo stand out from other photos like it.

That is nice looking! I'm looking for some primes pretty soon, I'd like to get one of these, a 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8!

I really like the 24 so far. I have the Nikon 50 and 85 as well and they are both nice lenses. My only regret with the 85 is the closest focus distance is 6+ feet away.

She is soooo cute!!! And you have definitely got me wanting that lens now....I was debating between Tamron and Sigma but I think these sets of images seals the deal for me - Sigma it is.

Throw an extension tube on the 85 and you can get some closer shots, but then you can't focus to infinity.

You can easily fix the focusing distance with a set of extension tubes. I'm hoping to pick up the Kenko tubes at some point. I just wish the focusing motor in my 50mm f/1.8 lens was quicker/better.

Edit: Yeah, what jrome said.

lol, I almost just bought a set of extension tubes but then I realized it was a bad deal. If you want to try a set of them just to see if you like them you should go to Adorama and type in "MCAETEOSP" and that's for their plastic mount extension tubes with electronics built in so your autofocus still works as well as aperture and shutter speed.

Thanks for the comments/compliments guys. I've toyed with the idea of extension tubes, even the homemade ones, but it's not high on the money allocation list.

Just curious... What made them a bad deal?

Actually I was going to buy some used ones thinking they were a metal mount, the guy wanted $60 for them. Not too shabby of a deal, then I asked about them and they were plastic which I could get the same exact ones on Adorama for $49. I was ready to wire money over, then found that out and told the seller that I could buy the exact same thing for $10 cheaper, brand new and he didn't budge at all on his price. I'm glad I investigated that a little more.

To play around with some, I wouldn't think $49 is too bad for the cheap plastic guys.. to invest in some, I would say go with Kenko and spend $170 once.
